HatBert sat in the Owlery with his parchment, quill and ink. Most people would assume that he was writing home to his parents', those people were entirely wrong. Writing to his parents' would be the last thing Bert did! Like his parents' would like to hear from him! His father, Fyodor Ivanova, hated the very sight of his only son, for the fact Bert was a wizard!
Bert played with his hat slightly, he wouldn't leave Hufflepuff common room without one! He dipped his quill in the ink and was about to write, when he forgot what he was writing. It was a Herbology essay, they were to write about a plant of their choice and what you could use it for. The only problem was, Bert wasn;t sure what to write about.
The owls were hooting and flying around the place, Bert unlike other people found this quite relaxing. It helped his thought process a lot.
Suddenly Speckles jumped onto the page again. That was the third time since he got here . Speckles was Bert's pet frog, Bert tried to put him back in his picket, but Speckles' wasn't having it!
It was a Saturday, Bert was in his Sweater Vest and beige trousers. He had the whole weekend to finish this essay, but he just wanted it done and out of the way! So that Sunday was then his free day, his free day to go and play quidditch!

Ester ran up the stone steps to the Owlery, she had really had enough. Midnas must of heard her for she flew out and greeted her. "Hey Midnas." Ester said quietly. She hoped it would be empty when she got there, but nothing was going to go right today.
A boy, Bert Ivanova was there. She groaned silently. He was writing something, a letter maybe, but it looked like homework. "Hello?" she said, there was no point in scaring him and ruining what he was doing.
Ester didn't normally mix with people, but a little company would be okay. Midnas had perched on her shoulder, and hooted once.

Bert turned around to see a girl standing, couldn't be much younger than himself.
"Well hello there my lassie, Bert Fyodor Ivanova here!" Bert said in his thick scottish accent. He walked over to the girl and grinned. "Sixth year Hufflepuff, I'm at your service!"
The second new person he had met, hopefully he wouldn't anger this girl as he did with Frankie. Though what he did there was a complete and utter accident!
Speckles jumped on Bert's shoulder, croaking happily. Bert cupped him in his hands and stroked him.

"Hi," She said, slightly startled. "I'm Ester V-M Heston, Fifth year Ravenclaw." She was quiet shocked at his sudden burst of welcomes. She was a very shy, hostile type of girl. "Are you writing a letter, I can go if you want, I all wanted to see Midnas." She touched the bird on her shoulder, who nibbled her finger.
"You have a frog. Aren't they hard to keep track of?" she asked, trying for a out of family conversation.
Ester really didn't like frogs, they live in water, so she would never go anywhere near them. They were slim covered and sticky, and the way they clung onto you, made her shiver mentally.

"No, please don't leave on my account. I wasn't writing a letter, I was just doing some homework. I find the Owlery quite a peaceful place.
That owl of yours is a beauty, I must say. Midnas did you say its name was?" Bert always had something about Owls, they were always so beautiful and wise. Yet his love for frogs was bigger, and as well as that an Owl would be no use to him. It wasn't like he wrote to home on a regular basis to use it.
"Yes, his name is Speckles. That they are, and Speck's is a jumpy frog! Well more jumpy than other frogs, if ya get what I'm saying me lass. Though most of the time he likes to listen. Today just isn't one of those days!"
Most people would say Bert was rambling, Bert on the other hand said that he just tended to like to explain things in length to people.

"Oh okay." Ester placed a smiled weakly on her face. "I'm not use to people being here, I'm normally the only one up here." She took a step inside, "Yes, this is Midnas, would you like to say hello?" She took the heavy bird and urged her onto her hand and carried her closer to Bert.
"She won't hurt, but she might want to look at Speckles." She grinned.

"If ya'd like me to move, I don't mind.I think I've just about established that I can't think of anything to write at the moment." He could always ask the sixth years in the Hufflepuff common room.
Bert watched as Ester brought the owl closer to himself, suddenly Speckles jumped out of his hands and next to the only window in the Owlery. "Speckles, come back here! Now! Bert shouted at the frog.
He ran over the the window, but Speckles had already jumped to somewhere else in the room. "Speckles Ivanova! You come back here now Mister!

"Midnas go! I'm so sorry!" She said in a rushed voice as Midnas flew to perch higher up. "She likes other creatures, they just don't always like her." She wne tover to where Bert was standing and attempted to help look for the frog.
"Speckles?! C'mere boy. Be a good frog!" But she knew if she did see him, she would never be able to pick him up. Then she spotted him, high on one of the perchs.
"Bert! Up there!" She hissed, pointing to where he was. She could probably reach the frog, she reached out her arm, and grasped the frog. She squealed as it clung to her hand.
"Ew! Here, take him, good frog." She said holding him at arms length for Bert to take.

"Don't worry about it, it's Speckles' fault really!" Bert said still searching for him.
Bert quickly took the frog as Ester found him, "Thank you ya so much lassie!" He looked at the frog, who was now cupped in his hands. "Speckles! You need to quit doing this now! I thought you'd grown out of this stage!"
Bert turned to Ester, "I've been thinking of using the summoning charm on him! I guess you're not a fan of frogs then?" Bert asked her/

Ester stopped wiping her hands down her jeans and looked at him. "Um, no, not really. I don't like slimy small things. Sorry." she half grinned, then went back to wiping her hand.
"How come you like them?" she asked, eyeing Speckles cautiously, thinking he might jump out of Bert's hand again. Midnas landed on her shoulder, her green eyes fixated on the frog, then on Bert, then back again.
"Has anyone ever told it's rude to stare?" Ester laughed, tapped the owl's beak. She hooted once then took to looking out the window.

Bert chuckled, "It's not your fault, can't help it if ya don't like it!
Bert paused when Ester asked him that question, "I dunno, if I were honest with you. I just like that they're so active and all!" In a way they kind of reminded Bert of himself.

"Oh, cool. I can see were you get if from then." meaning his hyperness. She grinned.
"So, how come you were doing homework up here, and I've probably never seen you up here before, well, I have, but only briefly?" she asked. She hoped she didn't sound to intruding, because if he asked quetions, she didn't know what answer he'd get.

"The Hufflepuff Common Room isn't always quiet, as well as that I thought the Owls may pass some knowledge onto me!" Bert joked playfully.
He still didn't have a clue what to write in his essay, he was going to have to look in his books and hopefully an idea would expand from there.

"What do you need help with? I might be able to help you." she smiled. When had she ever offered someone help? Well, when they didn't imeadiately throw her against the wall and call her 'Mudblood' or 'Muggle Born', which hadn't been that often.
"I'm okay in a few things, not that good, but I read a little up on the subjects at home." She wanted to help, and that was new too, she barley knew the guy, first names and stuff, but she wanted to help him!

Bert smiled at Ester who was being so friendly [color-yellow]"Herbology essay, I have to pick a plant and name as many uses as possible, 8 inches of parchment. I can barely write one!"
[/color] Bert chuckled. He hoped that somebody would be able to help him here.[/blockquote][/blockquote]
